Casamance, the last bastion of the animist religion in Muslim soil, is the most traditional region of Senegal, geographically and culturally similar to neighboring Guinea Bissau, with which it shares landscapes lush and ancient customs. They are lands of animist kings and queens, of clay and red earth villages, of colonial legacies and boundless plantations that open the door to one of the best preserved paradises in the Atlantic: the archipelago of Bijagos. An infinite number of islands and atolls outside Bissau inhabited by a population that has always strenuously defended ancient traditions and respects the natural habitat of dolphins, sea hippos, turtles and birds aquatic plants that winter in the mangroves.
