The whale shark, the ‘gentle giant of the sea’, is the largest shark on the planet and at the same time the most harmless. Swimming in the company of these majestic and tame creatures is possible in Djibouti, and will certainly be an unforgettable experience.

Between November and January, the seabed in the Gulf of Djibouti becomes rich in plankton and attracts hundreds of whale sharks, which flock to this stretch of coastline to feed and breed. On a boat trip from the capital, the spectacle is truly incredible. Accompanied by dolphins, the boat crosses the waters of Gulf until it is possible to see the silhouettes of these enormous animals. The first sighting is a unique emotion, but the experience becomes truly adrenalin-pumping if you dive among them with mask and fins, almost touching them.
