Ethiopia

A mosaic of peoples and cultures in one of the most amazing landscapes in Africa. A great country to which it is worth returning again and again, certain that the magic of its fascinating territory will not be exhausted in a single visit. Breathtaking panoramas, priceless historical evidence, ancient manuscripts, evocative Coptic monasteries, holy cities and forbidden cities, as well as ancestral traditions that are perpetuated in the daily lives of populations that seem to live outside of time.

Three different landscapes for three possible itineraries of discovery. In the centre-north, a vast plateau with superb heights guards unparalleled cultural and spiritual sites: churches carved into the rock, imperial cities, fortresses and majestic palaces that seem to come straight out of a storybook and legendary places that cloak the so-called “historical route” in mystery.

On the border with Eritrea and Djibouti lies the Danakil depression, home of the Afar people, a fascinating and rugged region of glowing deserts, perennial geysers, dazzlingly coloured alkaline lakes and fiery volcanoes.

But Ethiopia is also the country of peoples, a myriad of ethnic groups inhabiting the great south, the Omo valley, with different lifestyles and age-old traditions, body scarifications and exhilarating initiation ceremonies.
