The ‘country of the unspoilt men’ impresses with its traditions, culture, art and beautiful landscapes, but what really wins you over is the friendliness of its inhabitants. And it is among the picturesque markets of Sahél, the remote traditional villages, the streets of Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso that we will find the true wealth of Burkina Faso: the Burkinabè people, who will open the doors of their homes to us and accompany us to discover the ancestral rites and traditions of their world.
Burkina Faso is the warm heart of the Sahél, an ecosystem made up of bushes, gigantic mangoes with succulent fruits, baobabs and acacias. A land of cliffs shaped by the wind, rock formations sculpted by the elements as if they were sandcastles, and undulating valleys dotted with small bodies of water where hippos and herds of elephants live undisturbed. Then there are the sun-baked landscapes of the savannah, which, when the Harmattan’s powerful breath blows, are covered in dust and red earth. The same red earth from which, for centuries, clay has been extracted to build enchanted villages, small square fortresses and sinuous houses like those of Tiebelè, inhabited by the Kassena and Gourounsi and decorated with henna and khol, applied to the external walls as if they were cosmetics, to make them more beautiful.
Don’t miss the two events that make Burkina Faso not only the cradle of ancient traditions, but also one of the driving forces of culture in Africa: Fespaco, the main African film festival, held in the capital in odd-numbered years, and Festima, the biennial festival of masks and arts in Dedougou.
Kanaga Africa Tours works at the service of travellers to offer a privileged channel to anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the reality of this magnificent country and appreciate its immense tangible and intangible cultural heritage. At the moment, due to a rather complex socio-political situation, we have decided to suspend our trips to Burkina Faso, a land that we deeply love and that we will certainly be the first to propose again as soon as the situation will calm down and the necessary security conditions will be restored.
