Djibouti

In spite of its small size, Djibouti is astonishing for the extraordinary environmental variety of its landscapes, some of the most spectacular on the entire African continent, which are still little visited and retain all the charm of one of the world’s last tourist frontiers.

A true paradise for geology enthusiasts and lovers of nature in its most surprising expressions, Djibouti leads to the discovery of salt lakes of a thousand shades, volcanic ridges of an ancient land, basalt cliffs, imposing canyons, sulphurous fumaroles and spectacular limestone chimneys eroded by time. It will come as a surprise that such a lunar landscape can also accommodate verdant areas of luxuriant nature and a coastline that boasts some of the most beautiful white sand beaches, overlooking the crystal-clear turquoise of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, the habitat of docile whale sharks and numerous underwater species, to be admired with mask and snorkel.

A country to be discovered in its surreal landscapes, winding its way between Lakes Assal and Abbé, through inactive volcanoes, black lava fields, Afar caravans of dromedaries carrying salt, until it reaches the lowest point on the African continent, 153 metres below sea level, completing the itinerary with a small cruise through the paradisiacal waters of the Gulf of Tadjoura, for a close encounter with the colourful life of the seabed.
