Packing the suitcase is a matter of common sense and the personal needs of each traveller.
Here we give just a few tips on what kind of luggage to bring, how much and what kind of equipment you need.
If your chosen destination is the beautiful Sahara Desert, the first tip is to bring a soft sports bag and avoid hard suitcases with wheels, which are not suitable for use in the sand. In addition, take the bare essentials, trying to avoid unnecessary excess weight. It is also important to economise on the space available in the luggage compartments of the cars, in favour of the field materials and supplies of food and water, necessary for the duration of the tour, which the team will have to carry.
To get a rough idea of the weight and volume of things to carry, always think of a piece of luggage that you yourself would be able to carry under your own steam and place independently and easily inside your igloo tent.
As for “what to bring”, here is a list of things you absolutely must not forget and which take into account the wide temperature range between day and night:
-comfortable and sporty clothes suitable for the desert sand
-a jacket and fleece to protect you from low temperatures in the morning, evening and night
-socks, scarf and hat
-a sleeping bag that is also suitable for peak temperatures around 0°C (especially if the chosen period is from the end of November to early March)
-sanitizer towels, toilet paper, remember that water is imperatively rationed and in any case the temperatures are not conducive to open-air washing.
-travel pillow
-towel
-sun glasses, sun cream and cocoa butter
-small travel pharmacy
-torch
-spare batteries and adequate sand protection for your camera equipment
(no need for a power adapter, sockets are compatible with European ones)
If you are travelling to the archaeological ruins of the Mediterranean and the central Algeria, no special equipment is required and you can even exceed the weight of your luggage by a few kilos, carrying hard cases if you wish. All hotel accommodation is of a good standard and equipped with every comfort.
However, we recommend comfortable clothing with a good pair of trainers for the daily visits to the sites of interest, and that it is suitable for the period chosen, based on the cyclical seasonal temperatures, which are very similar to the Italian Mediterranean.
