In the north-eastern part of the Sahara, in Chad, the desert offers one of its most unexpected and fascinating faces. The Ennedi, a massive sandstone massif, imposing and extremely varied morphologically, gives its name to the entire region and is one of the most incredible wonders that nature can offer… in the middle of the desert.
Here, a microclimate has been preserved that allows us to understand how the Sahara was originally an enormous fertile expanse of green land rich in life. Natural and anthropological testimonies, all to be discovered, for a unique and exciting adventure.
In the Ennedi, you can feel the wonder of nature and its boundless power, of which mankind is also a part. It is no coincidence that UNESCO has included the region in its list of World Heritage Sites, for its environmental but also cultural value. It is in the most secret recesses, the deepest caves and the most monumental walls that one of the most abundant and important inventories of wall art in the entire Sahara Desert is preserved. It is impossible not to be moved by the impressive graffiti of wild animals, which the skilful hand of man engraved more than 7,000 years ago. The refined figures painted in ochre and kaolin, of graceful galloping horses and dromedaries, which almost seem to float or fly, and the herds of dappled oxen or the theories of small dancing human figures, which undoubtedly inspired Matisse, are moving.
What is certain is that the Ennedi will amaze even the most experienced traveller or the most sceptical.
