Dahlias of geological stratifications, gorges and cliffs eroded by time into surreal shapes, pinnacles and natural cathedrals, miraculous gueltas and heavenly oued. Adventurous routes among dunes to be surmounted, gorges to be dammed, canyons to be explored. There, hidden in the most remote recesses, are its most precious jewels, which in themselves are worth the journey: the Guelta d’Archei and the extraordinary rock testimonies of millenary civilisations.
One of the most incredible sights in the Sahara is the watering of the dromedaries that enter the deep gorge of Guelta d‘Archei in their hundreds, gathered by the tubu herders. Their arrival is anticipated by the rumble of their cries on the smooth, rounded sandstone walls, and the echo of their dull pawing, muffled by the sandy ground. In just a few seconds they animate and fill this otherwise remote and silent place, crowding around the miraculous water, challenging the last specimens of Nilotic crocodiles that live in the heart of the Sahara. Definitely an unforgettable experience, in a natural amphitheatre of extraordinary beauty!
