Called “the bride of the Atlantic” due to its whitewashed houses, perched on a rocky promontory, seem to embrace the waves of the ocean, the city of Essaouira retains the intriguing charm of a suspended port in time.

Founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th century under the name of Mogador, over time its quiet harbor has attracted Carthaginian, Roman and Portuguese navigators. Today its medina, the ancient historic center, is inscribed in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, but it is above all its relaxed atmosphere and cosmopolitan character that conquers visitors. In the alleys of the souk and in the craft shops it is possible to buy products of all kinds, from silver jewelry to fabrics, carpets, spices, ointments, perfumes, or ornaments carved in wood. The best view of the medina can be enjoyed from the port, a lively and buzzing place with activity, from which the whisper of the trade winds propagates inviting aromas of grilled fish.
