A vibrant and booming capital city, Tunis boasts the most beautiful and best-preserved medina in all of North Africa, with winding alleyways, vaulted passageways, wooden portals decorated with heavy nails, monuments, mosques, mederseys and the markets of the various artisan guilds, with traditional workshops and ateliers arranged hierarchically around the great Jamaa ez-Zitouna mosque.
