A metropolis where the dynamism of the present and the memory of a glorious past blend harmoniously, Tunis enchants with its fascinating blend of the Arab and Mediterranean worlds, the soft colours of the past and the bright colours of the present.
A vibrant and booming capital city, Tunis boasts the most beautiful and best-preserved medina in all of North Africa, with winding alleyways, vaulted passageways, wooden portals decorated with heavy nails, monuments, mosques, mederseys and the markets of the various artisan guilds, with traditional workshops and ateliers arranged hierarchically around the great Jamaa ez-Zitouna mosque. But it is from the top of its terraces tiled with multicoloured ceramics that Tunis offers itself to the eye in all its beauty. A visit to the Bardo archaeological museum is an unmissable history lesson. Another must-see destination is Sidi Bou Said, a few kilometres from the city centre, a famous fishing village with typical blue and white houses perched on the side of a hill overlooking the Mediterranean.
